We all hate rejection and struggling to find a place we all feel at home. And for this reason , for many years , exams have been about competition to find a place where we can advance in our studies and this leads to exam cheating.
But this is a thing of the past .For Kenyan learners what the government has put in place has just proved unnecessary to cheat in exams.
Why?
According to the Ministry of Education officials there are more than enough secondary school vacancies for all candidates sitting the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations this year and henceforth.
The officials said that 1.1 million vacancies are available even as President Uhuru Kenyatta assured candidates that they would all proceed with their education. “All you need to do is do your best… we have enough spaces in Form One,” said the President at Uhuru Gardens Primary School yesterday.
A total of 1,060,703 candidates will sat for the primary examinations this year.
So what doe this mean?
Government efforts to achieve 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary school might not fail this year because of a poor enrollment in Form One in some counties as the government has put in place all necessary measures to ensure all students are accommodated in high school.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had assured all candidates that 2018 national examinations will be fair and more secure than ever before.
The President said the government was committed to promoting the quality and integrity in the country’s education system.
He encouraged this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidates to do adequate preparations.
Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed yesterday said Form One selection would start on December 3. “I want to clearly state that there will be only one selection exercise,” Dr Amina said at Star of the Sea School in Mombasa when releasing this year’s KCPE results. She said this is in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s order that those who did KCPE, parents and guardians break for the Christmas festivities having known which schools the children have been admitted to.

Last year , 993,718 candidates who sat for KCPE exams were expected to have reported to secondary schools by January 17th while those chosen in the second selection were expected to have reported by January 23.
However this year there has been a turn of events as the selection will be different from all other years ,according to the ministry of education under the watch of Cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed.
I congratulate the class of #KCPE2018 for demonstrating to all of us that hard work bears fruit and that true success is the culmination of honest and dedicated effort. We will guarantee 100% transition to secondary schools. @ExamsCouncil @TSCKenya @KICDKenya pic.twitter.com/SScgHajRET

However In the year 2017 , despite the government announcing Free Day Secondary education, extending the period for enrollment and introducing day wings in some top boarding schools, the turnout in some regions raised eyebrows with the government considering a door-to-door mechanism to ensure students go to school.
