Amount male MCAs had to part away with for assaulting speaker Ayoo

Politicians get away with a lot of things but not this time around when they thought of messing with their assembly speaker. She sought justice and the law caught up with the reckless legislators.

Kisumu High Court Judge Justice Fred Ochieng has today released the seven MCAs, who have been under detention at Kodiaga Maximum prison, with a set of conditions.

The Homa Bay Members of the County Assembly accused of assaulting Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo have been released on a personal bond of Ksh.250,000 and a surety of the same.

The seven are; Evans Marieba (Gwasi North Ward), Phelimon Onditi (Kagan Ward), Dan Were (Kakelo Kokwanyo Ward), Paul Wamunga (North Karachuonyo Ward) Geoffrey Juma Anyango (Kabondo West Ward), Paul Adika (Lambwe Ward) and Peter Kaula (Wang’chieng Ward).

During the October incident, the Assembly sergeants saved Speaker Ayoo from the hands of irate MCAs who allegedly pounced on her with kicks and blows accusing her of being biased.

Homa Bay County Assembly speaker Madam Elizabeth Ayoo was rushed to Kisumu hospital for treatment after being assaulted by the male Members of County Assembly in an afternoon session.

Chaos erupted in the county assembly today over leadership positions in the county assembly, with MCAs accusing Ms Ayoo of changing list of new office holders.

Madam Ayoo was allegedly assaulted by Kakelo Kokwanyo MCA, Dan Were who is said to have attacked the speaker with a chair.

First persons to be arrested  on  Thursday over the issue were County Assembly Majority Leader Walter Muok and Central Karachuonyo MCA Julius Gaya have been arrested.

Gaya was taken to Kendu Bay Police Station while Muok was taken to Homa Bay immediately. But they were later transferred to Nyanza regional CID headquarters in Kisumu.

Awhile back in the assembly’s wrangles,the court process server identified as Elivis Ochieng’ from Kisumu High Court went to the assembly to serve the Clerk -Daniel Kaudo over alleged contempt of Court.

The contempt order accused Mr. Kaudo of swearing in of Gwassi North MCA Evans Marieba as the acting Speaker after Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo was impeached some weeks ago.

The order required the clerk to appear in court over the contempt.However, a few minutes later, MCAs who were at the county assembly pounced on the court orderly with kicks and blows.

Homa Bay County Assembly has had wrangles since Ayoo was impeached. Ayoo later received a court order allowing her to continue serving until the case she filed in court is concluded.

Unhappy MCAs and Assembly workers vandalized Mrs Ayoo’s office and removed all the furniture in a bid to stop her from resuming duty as directed by the Labour Court.
