For the generation of income a lot of things can work including rivals like Uhuru and Raila, then Kalonzo and Uhuru with the latest being Waiguru and Raila.
Currently governors from the lower eastern regions of Machakos, Makueni and Kitui have agreed to work together under the Southern Eastern Economic Bloc (SEKEB) for development of the Ukambani region.
The trade bloc is a type of intergovernmental agreement, often part of a regional intergovernmental organization, where barriers to trade are reduced or eliminated among the participating states.
The leaders say the economic bloc will enable the three counties to synchronize their development agenda and to attract funding and support from various development partners.
Regional integration, as a process, involves the growth of linkages and transactions derived primarily from economic activity but involving social inter-connections.
Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua also said the economic bloc will enable the three counties to synchronize their development agendas and to attract funding and support from various development partners.
Governor Mutua together with Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana and Charity Ngilu of Kitui attended a meeting hosted by the Archbishop of ABC Church Timothy Ndambuki in Machakos and also attended by the Regional Leaders Forum, Ukambani Elders Forum and Ukambani Clan council.
The meeting was also attended by the Speakers and Leadership of the County Assemblies of Machakos, Makueni and Kitui is said to be a continuation of the SEKEB program that was started by the three counties in 2016.
The meeting was meant to jump start the bloc which will also include all leaders such as Senators, MPs and MCAs.
States and communities yearn to come together under the framework of economic integration for various reasons.
The key rationale for establishing such groupings the world over is to take advantage of economies of scale and expanded market or space for goods and services within jurisdictions of the economic blocs.
This underpins the idea of strength in numbers and the fact that the world is becoming increasingly interdependent.Economic cooperation foresees some degree of commercial preferentialism, but with harmonised domestic rules.
The emerging trend of regional bloc groupings in Kenya is a concept that should be embraced by all, if not most, of the 47 counties noting that the constitutional allocation of 15 percent sharable revenue from the national Treasury is not enough.
Do you like the economic blocs system in Kenya for its development?
