One of them, a relative of a notorious drug kingpin, was arrested and is helping police with investigations.
“We found the suspects harvesting the drug. They had already packed 20 sacks,” Mukanda said.
Police uprooted the plants and took them to Migori police headquarters for destruction.
“We have intelligence reports that bhang smugglers have shifted from Tanzania and are now planting bhang in villages near the Kenyan border,” Mukanda said.
He said the suspect in custody will help police track smugglers in Nairobi and Mombasa, where the drugs were destined. This arrest and drugs impounding come as few politician are trying to push the agenda of bhang legalization for medicinal use in Kenya.
