Migori Governor Okoth Obado

Migori governor Okoth Obado is currently in Kibera law courts following his arrest yesterday after the EACC raided his two homes in Nairobi and Migori and recovered 8 guns.

Obado was escorted into the court followed by tight security who are manning the areas around Kibera law courts.

Mr Obado was earlier held at the basement cells of the Milimani Law Courts.

The county chief was arrested for questioning on Wednesday by officers of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The raids took place at the county chief’s office and homes, from where eight firearms, several bank statements and electronics were confiscated.

Five of the firearms were found in Nairobi and three in Migori, sources said.

Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti said the firearms will be subjected to ballistic examinations and verification of certificates at the Central Firearms Bureau.

Mr Obado is accused of using proxies, among them his relatives, to siphon Sh2 billion from the coffers of the county government, according to an affidavit filed in court by the anti-corruption watchdog.

A section of Migori residents have taken on the streets to protest the arrest of Obado saying it is political and that some people are behind the constant arrest of their governor.

This comes after Obado was released just a couple of weeks following the alleged involvement in Sharon’s murder.

DO YOU THINK OBADO WILL BE SET FREE?
