Danger signs? Ozil turns down lucrative deal to stay at Arsenal

Is this German machine on the exit lane at the Emirates? Gunners don’t cry yet.

Mesut Ozil turned down ‘crazy offers’ from Asia in order to stay at Arsenal according to his agent Dr Erkut Sogut.

The German finally put pen to paper on a new Arsenal contract in January after lengthy negotiations with the club.

Ozil signed a three-and-a-half-year deal worth £350,000 a week.

“We had some really big offers from Asia, there were some crazy offers,” Sogut told the Evening Standard.

“But for Mesut, money was by no means the biggest factor.

“Money is definitely one important thing to consider, but people must remember that footballing ability is just one aspect of a contract negotiation.

“The commercial impact of a footballer is crucial nowadays.”

According to the Evening Standard, Ozil even turned down a move worth up to £1million-a-week to stay in north London.
