Kenyatta – Mudavadi Meeting that Could As Well Change the Political Landscape

The political landscape in Kenya is one known to be uncertain. The dimension of Kenyan politics change daily with each day having new developments.

The latest developments indicate that Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi seem to be a man on a mission, a mission to be considered a Key political player come 2022.

After numerous visits to the Mt. Kenya region reportedly in search of a running mate, the NASA principal is believed to have met with President Kenyatta’s point-man David Murathe. Mr. Murathe is also the Jubilee Vice Chairman and a fierce defender of the President.

Murathe hosted Mudavadi for more than seven hours at his rural home in Gatanga. This was after the two attended the burial of renown businessman Muchai Githu in Shomo village, Gatanga constituency.

The meeting was also attended by a few businessmen and influential political operatives who had been invited by Murathe. They included Capt Kungu Muigai, Uhuru’s cousin and de facto spokesman of the Kenyatta family.

Kungu is known to be in the President’s inner circle and is patron of the National Council of Elders and inter-community networking group.

Also present was former Kenya Pipeline and Kenya Volleyball Federation boss Waithaka Kioni.

The meeting has elicited mixed reactions with some people reading more to it.

Mr. Murathe has however downplayed everything saying it was just a friendly meeting. He said that Mudavadi being his friend and in fact a former classmate, he see’s nothing wrong if he host’s him at him home.

This meeting comes days after Mudavadi was reported to be on a mission to get a running mate from central Kenya in his bid to succeed Kenyatta who is constitutionally ineligible to run again.

Murathe is no ordinary central Kenya politician. He is Uhuru’s close ally and confidant, having played a major role in his presidential campaigns in 2013 and 2017.

He was at the forefront in the formation of TNA party and later transforming the Jubilee Coalition into Jubilee Alliance Party, the precursor to the current Jubilee Party.

The meeting will surely send fears among other Presidential contenders due to the fact that President Kenyatta is yet to openly endorse any candidate with the President saying that his 2022 pick will shock many.

Murathe has in the past openly differed with Ruto’s allies who have accused him and others around the President of trying to undermine the DP’s bid.

Should other Political Players be worried of the meeting between Mudavadi and Murathe?
