Do you know your governor? Better yet, is he delivering everything he promised in his/her manifesto during the campaign period? Kenyans seem to be fed up with their governors who over-promise but under-deliver.
KOT on Twitter blasted governors from across the county in what was visibly the most sarcastic trending topic. Using the hash tag #CongratulationsGovernor, the netizens shamed the governors for their work or lack thereof and for the mediocre projects they boast in that have cost taxpayers millions of shillings.
No scandal has ever hurt me like this. It's right in my village. Ksh 5M was set aside for construction of the bridge. This structure was still there but very rusty, they just painted it blue and 3months later BOOM grand opening of a new bridge.#CongratulationsGovernor pic.twitter.com/2P0BRHVmHz

If you live in Nairobi, let’s take a look at some of the things out ‘beloved’ Governor Sonko promised.
1. Use of technology to control traffic. Sonko promised to establish the County Traffic Control Command Centre which would use CCTV infrastructure installed by the National Government to direct traffic on roads.
2. He promised to allow buses with over 60 passengers to start plying Nairobi routes and also give incentives to transport companies to introduce double decker buses.
3. He promised to provide safe walkways beginning with the city’s key corridors such as Kibera, Nyayo Stadium, Industrial area, Juja Road, Pangani, CBD, Jogoo Road and Kangemi to Westlands.
4. Provide drainage-unclogging jobs to unemployed youths who would be mobilised to maintain drainage system across the city.
5. Sonko promised to liaise with small scale entrepreneurs and hawkers to come up with specific hours, days and designated areas for them to conduct their businesses profitably, while at the same time allowing for smooth traffic and human flow in the capital streets.
6. He promised to provide additional road signs on all roads that weren’t properly marked and improve pedestrian services across the city.
7. Eliminate touting fees which he said were being used to nurture corruption and was used by city’s inspectorate to harass matatu operators.
Out of the seven promises made by Governor Sonko, how many can you tick off the list as done? That seems to be the narrative with most counties in Kenya. Governors like all other politicians are fond of talking too much yet doing the least.
Is your governor working as he promised? Let us know his/her name and the county you represent.
