The gunners’ greatest players ever, how many do you know?

In 2008, Gooners voted for the Gunners’ Greatest Player and Henry eclipsed Bergkamp, Adams et al to win the poll.

#4 Ian Wright

‘Some footballers are great goalscorers. Others are scorers of great goals. Ian Wright was both.’ Wright scored 185 goals in 288 appearances for Arsenal. He had played for the Gunners for 7 years and was the Arsenal’s top scorer in six successive seasons, helping the club win Premier League in the 1997-1998 season and European Cup Winners’ Cup in the 1993-1994 season.

#3 Tony Adams

When you think of Arsenal captains, you think of Tony Adams. He had been Arsenal’s captain for 14 years, with 669 appearances and 10 major trophies. Adam won league titles with the Gunners in three different decades and scored 48 goals during his Arsenal career. There are no doubts that he is one of the club’s greatest-ever players.

#2 Dennis Bergkamp

‘I never thought I’d achieve what I did’, this is how Bergkamp talked about his Arsenal career. He is the first Dutchman to be inducted in to the National Football Museum Hall of Fame. ‘Boring, Boring Arsenal’ was to be replaced by something more beautiful after Bergkamp’s arrival. He had netted 120 goals in his 11-year career with Arsenal, making him the 10th highest goalscorer in Arsenal’s history. His textbook technique, physical prowess and second-nature for picking out the killer pass made him the ultimate symbol of fantasy football. He helped Arsenal become Premier League and FA Cup double winners in 1998. He is absolutely a perfect idol of young football players and his best years will always belong to Arsenal.

#1 Thierry Henry

Remember the kid in the playground who was better than everyone else with a football at his feet? That’s what Thierry Henry was like in his pomp. Henry was the captain, talisman, the dead-ball expert, the penalty-taker and the assist-maker of Arsenal, having exquisite technique, searing pace and surprising strength. The Frenchman won two league titles, three FA Cups, four Golden Boots, five Player of the Year awards when he played for Arsenal. However, he missed the Champions League trophy after defeat in the 2006 final, which might be his greatest regret in his Arsenal career. Henry will always be an Arsenal man, although New York is where he ended his playing days.
