President Uhuru Proposes the “Way of the Cross” to Restore Morality in Schools

The society is on the spotlight for giving a blind eye to the many issues affecting the young generation. The society has been accused of ignoring issues that clearly matter to the young generation.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, being the head of state and basically like a father figure to the many youths has now come up with a solution to curb the growing mess in the society and especially in the Kenyan schools.

The President has urged churches in the country to continue playing a pivotal role in mentoring school children to ensure they uphold good morals and integrity. The President stated that the church remains an important pillar in the country’s education system.

The Kenyan schools have of late made headlines for the wrong reasons especially with the ongoing national examinations where young school girls have been found to be pregnant.

“When we look at our schools today, it is evident that there is something missing. We need to go back to when the church played an important role in our schools. A time when church sponsored schools mentored our children,” said the President.

The President was speaking at the Funeral Mass of the late Archbishop John Njenga that was held at the University of Nairobi.

The President admitted to knowing Archbishop Njenga all his life as a humble man with great humor dedicated to the service of God.

“I have had the opportunity to know Archbishop John Njenga almost all my life. He was a man of humility, a man of great humor, a man dedicated to the service of God and to the service of man, not just to satisfy their spiritual needs, but also their human needs,” said Kenyatta.

At the same time, the President directed the Ministry of Land to restore all church owned land and schools back to their rightful owners, within one week.

Kenyatta specifically directed the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Lands, Nicholas Muraguri, to convene a meeting with the Education Ministry on Wednesday to initiate restoration of church-owned land.

The late retired Archbishop Njenga, who died on November 4 will be buried in the precincts of the Holy Family Basilica . He retired as the Archbishop of Mombasa in 2005 after leading the archdiocese for 17 years.
