There was drama in Narok town on Monday after boda boda and taxi operators frog-matched and stripped a 35-year-old taxi driver in an attempt to forcefully circumcise him.
The more than 50 operators picked the driver at his place of work and tried to take him to the Narok County Referral Hospital using a handcart but police intervened. The man was forced to march round the town streets naked. He was taken to Narok river, where they dipped him in readiness to ‘face the knife’.
Some Sh10,000 was raised to help him undergo the initiation. Police had to lob teargas to disperse residents and rescue him. They took him to the police station.
According to witnesses, the man, only identified as ‘Brown; is said to have been exhibiting ‘childish’ behaviors eliciting suspicion among his colleagues. “We recently got a tip off from his close friends that he was not circumcised. Ironically he has been insulting people by referring them as ‘kihii’ (uncircumcised). We laid an ambush and when we stripped him, we confirmed that he was indeed uncircumcised,” said a boda boda operator. Police, however rescued the man.
Narok North police boss Joseph Kisombe said they saved man from the angry operators. The boda boda operators said they were angered by the man for staying long before going for the “mandatory cut”.
The man took himself to the hospital for circumcision to avoid further humiliation.
