The Hassan Joho Effect: Is He Uhuru’s New Spanner Boy?

If there is something that many did not see coming is the close relationship that is now brewing between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho. I bet its true when they say that the handshake came with it’s very good side. It has not only helped bury political animosity but also helped changed the political landscape in the country.

Days after Kalonzo Musyoka agreed to be President Uhuru’s Spanner boy, Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has also been seen as a man making a move towards the President.

After a prolonged period of a war of words and a show of might, Joho and Uhuru burried the hatchet back in June.

Their newfound political friendship blossomed even more when the Mombasa county boss reiterated his commitment to work with the government.

“I am committed to the unity, and we will walk the journey together [with President Kenyatta] so that we can have a nation that is free from tribalism and religious differences,” Mr Joho said.

The two were spotted in Paris at the ongoing Paris Peace Forum where Mombasa County showcased her efforts at preventing and countering violent extremism. The County’s efforts have been acknowledged and endorsed by President Uhuru.

This event is held in Paris France as part of the Paris Peace Forum. It commemorates the end of the first world war in which Kenya, then part of the East African British Protectorate, was an active participant.

The Paris Peace Forum was created as a counter to all tendencies towards conflict. It convenes those among States and civil society that still believe in collective action, multilateralism and good stewardship.

In partnership with the Green String Network through the Kumekucha (It’s a new dawn) project, Mombasa County shared her story on what has led to peace and tranquility in the region.

The county presented business and investment opportunities available in Mombasa and demonstrated the abundant tourism products that visitors can enjoy in it’s tourism sector.

Whether they are out just on official duty or not, the growing relationship between Joho and Uhuru will surely leave many with a lot of questions that need answers.

Joho has indicated that he is set to go for the Country’s top most seat and with President Uhuru recently revealing that Kenyans will be in for a rude shock when he announces his candidate of choice, Joho’s presence at his side is surely giving other contenders sleepless nights.

“People think I’m silent just because I’m going home. But when that time comes, I will definitely have a word to say,” Uhuru said during a visit to Nyeri.

Joho has on his part also stated and made it clear that he will do anything possible to block a William Ruto Presidency. Governor Joho has vowed that Ruto would not succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 General Election.

He has previously said he would work with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and other like-minded leaders to block Ruto from leading the country.

“Say what you want and do what you want, but politics is a game. We will deal with you (Ruto) by working with your opponents. Let us not blame one another. Let’s see what will happen come 2022,” said Joho when he was hosted by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Do you think a Joho Presidency is Possible?
