Muthama Declares War on Leading Newspapers, Here’s Why.

We all want to be in the limelight for all the good reasons, we want good stories about us and our achievements published even if it is on an emerging blog. So what happens when you constantly send stories to the publishers but they constantly ignore them? What happens if the said journalists even attend your events but end up mentioning nothing about it in the dailies?

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama seem to have found the perfect way to deal with journalists that give him and the Ukambani region a media blackout. He has moved with speed and banned local mainstream newspaper journalists from his events. Mr.Muthama say that the said journalists’ impact has not been felt either by him or the people from Ukambani.

Muthama had at some point threatened to lead a massive boycott from two leading newspaper publishers in the country due to their constant nature of ignoring news from the Ukambani region.

“These young men you are seeing here will file their stories today and the earliest they will be published is next week Friday if they are lucky,” said Muthama.

He was addressing mourners in Tala, Machakos County.

“There has been a consistent scheme by these companies to marginalize Ukambani as if nothing good can come from here. Tomorrow you will see ‘very weak stories’ from different parts of the country as ours here go down the drain. This is completely unacceptable,” declared Muthama.

He said the region’s only hope in terms of news coverage remains local FM and national radio stations as well as some TV stations.

On Sunday, Muthama made good his threats and invited all local radio and television journalists at Thinu Catholic church in Kathiani constituency where he and dozens of MCAs attended Sunday Mass but gave firm instructions that newspaper journalists must not be invited.

Muthama also made headlines yesterday when he took issue with Kalonzo’s decision to “impose” himself as President Kenyatta’s right hand man or as many put it “mtu wa mkono”

Kalonzo made the declaration during his father’s burial saying that at his age, he cannot afford to gamble in politics. Kalonzo has been in the political cold since 2013. In the previous two general elections, the former VP was the running mate to opposition Chief Raila Odinga and in both instances, they lost to the duo of Uhuru and Ruto.

Do you support Muthama’s directive to Newspaper publishers not to grace his functions?
