Ezekiel Mutua “stoned” for criticizing the 10over10 show

The President of Atheists in Kenya, Harrison Mumia  has ‘stoned’ Ezekiel Mutua for criticizing the 10 0ver 10 show and asked him to keep his morals to his family.

Mumia took to social media to express his disagreement over Mutua’s stand on the TV entertainment program.

His response was attracted by the statement by Ezekiel Mutua who said that the show has promoted immorality probably more than any other show has.

According to Mumia, this is not the first time that the KFCB head has demonstrated lack of understanding of the Kenya’s changing moral landscape and he felt that the statement by the KFCB  boss  could not go unanswered.

The President of Atheists in Kenya, defended his opinion that the how is an entertainment program and there is no tangible or reliable evidence to show how moral behavior is negatively impacted by television programming.

“countries with more lax rules about television programming do not have a higher incidence of immoral behavior. People can easily separate the fantasy of a television show from reality, and there is no evidence that witnessing immoral behavior leads people to imitate it.” he added

He also highlighted that television is very tame as compared to the influence of internet but at the same time, people should be left to take responsibility of their actions.

In a long post, the President of Atheists in Kenya also implied that Mutua can not impose his moral perspectives to the entire nation.  Harrison Mumia also vowed to defend Citizen Tv incase of an attempt by Kenya Film Classification Board to ban the 10 over 10 show.

“There will always be a source from which people learn new information, and the source itself cannot be labeled as “bad”. Television programming does not negatively impact moral behavior, but rather educates society on others moral perceptions.

Ezekiel Mutua’s conservative moral values are not the values of the entire country. He should restrict his moral perspectives to his family.

Crime rates, rape and early pregnancies are a result of factors such as a weak legal justice system, and have little to do with TV programming. We must reject Ezekiel Mutua’s rigid moral systems based on his religious beliefs.

Individuals are still and always will be responsible for the actions they take no matter the cultural influences. We will stand with Citizen TV should there be attempts to ban 10/10.”

Do you think the President of Atheists in Kenya has valid reasons to defend 10 over 10?
