Michuki rules?? 2 die, 11 injured in a Nairobi Sunday morning accident

Are these accidents witnessed almost everyday caused by lack of Michuki rules in effect? Will the crackdown that starts tomorrow restore sanity on our roads? Two people died while 11 others were injured on Sunday morning after a bus they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Lukenya area in Athi River on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

According to police, the driver of lorry was overtaking other vehicles when he collided with the oncoming bus belonging to Mash Poa Company at around 1.30am.

“It happened that the Isuzu lorry registration Number KCG 048Y was being driven from Mombasa general direction heading towards Nairobi direction and on reaching at the location of the accident it overtook a fleet of motor vehicles and collided head on with motor vehicle KCJ 399A which was being driven on the opposite direction,” reads a report from Athi River Police Station.

The injured passengers are said to have sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Machakos level five hospital.

The bodies of the deceased; a man and woman, were moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary.

The two vehicles were towed to the Athi River Police Station awaiting inspection and further action.

This is just another accident that follows many other tragic accidents that have left many dead, with the most recent tragic one being the Fort Ternan accident in Kericho left 58 people dead on October 10, 2018.

The ill-fated Western bound bus christened Homeboyz bus accident has so far seen the owner of the bus and the Sacco (Western Express sacco) charged in Court.

The Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) Noordin Haji  has hence directed for the further probe of the insurer and the body builder of the bus.

The Michuki rules are now the talk of the town and security agents have hence confirmed that they are inevitable. As they are effected again, do you think they will have anything to do with road sanity?
