What’s the Actual Reason For DP Ruto’s Return to Migori?

Deputy President William Ruto is expected back in Migori on Saturday, four days after he visited the county and dangled several development projects. Mr Ruto ill be in Kuria East, where he is scheduled to open a technical training institute (TTI) at Kendege and preside over a fundraiser in aid of over 20 churches in the region. According to Kuria East MP Marwa Maisori Kitayama, who is coordinating the visit, the Deputy President will be in the region to “fulfil his promise of officially opening the TTI” besides helping to fundraise.

“Plans to welcome the DP in Kuria are already complete. His visit is a follow-up of a promise he made when he visited the region two months ago. This time, he will be coming to commission the Kendege Technical Training Institute and lead a funds drive for churches in the region,” Mr Kitayama said.

ROAD

However, the MP said the DP will not launch the much anticipated Isibania-Kehancha-Kegonga-Ntimaru Road, which he said Mr Ruto requested to be pushed to next year. The expected launch of the road, which links Migori to Narok County, had excited locals who are hopeful that the road will open up the remote region to investors. In his Monday visit to Suna West, Mr Ruto commissioned Muhuru-Suna-Kehancha Road and also launched a street lighting project at Masara.

2022 POLITICS

However, the tour was largely criticised by ODM politicians, who claimed Mr Ruto did not invite them as his mission was to advance his 2022 political ambition. Indeed, the tour was boycotted by local ODM leaders including MPs and Senator Ochillo Ayacko. Only Migori Governor Okoth Obado, former Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga, and two MPs from Kuria West and Kuria East — Mr Mathias Robi and Mr Kitayama respectively — accompanied Mr Ruto. However, Mr Kitayama defended the DP’s visits, saying he was only doing his work.
