Uhuru defends his borrowing habit at Mzee Musyoka’s funeral

President Kenyatta blasts leaders over politics at funerals

President Uhuru Kenyatta today attended the funeral of the Late Mzee  Musyoka Mairu, the father to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The funeral service at Tseikuru Baraza park brought together leaders from both sides of the political divide in the country.

Speaking at the funeral service, President Kenyatta said that we all ought to learn from the late Mzee Mairu on the importance of family, keeping the family united and having love for family. Shedding light on the popular ‘handshake’, President Kenyatta said that he and  NASA Party leader, Raila Odinga decided to come together as one saying that divisive politics only affects the common mwananchi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has in the recent past been attacked from borrowing funds from other countries which has left Kenya in a lot of debt that the taxpayer will have to pay off.

 

Addressing the issue of debt, President Kenyatta said that he is being asked not to borrow yet the citizens expect roads to be constructed.

“Mmeniambia nisikope lakini mnataka barabara…Hata mzee alikopa ili apate karo ya kumpeleka Kalonzo shuleni! Haja ni pesa isiibiwe, isitumiwe kulipa mishahara,” said Mr. Kenyatta.

According to President Kenyatta, borrowing is okay as long as the money does not end up in the pockets of individuals or is used to pay salaries.

“We must borrow in a manner that we are sure we can service the debt, be cautious and prudent. We are borrowing not to consume, but to grow,”assured President Kenyatta.

The President further urged leaders to work together as one serve the people of Kenya.

“We are elected to serve Kenyans so let us work together and ensure we unite all Kenyans,” he said.

He encouraged leaders to make a contribution to this country and urged them to respect each other and give one another space.

Among other leaders present at the funeral were Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, Senators James Orengo, Mutula Kilonzo, Kipchumba Murkomen, Governors Charity Ngilu, Alfred Mutua, Kivutha Kibwana, Granton Samboja, among leaders are also at the funeral. Deputy President William Ruto was also in attendance with several cabinet secretaries, MP’s and Senators from a across the country.

The late Mzee Peter Musyoka Mairu died at the Nairobi Hospital on October 29 at the age of 94.

Uhuru Kenyatta’s excuse for borrowing is that Kenyans want roads built… However, what is the purpose of taxes if not infrastructure and development?
