Mourinho makes a promise to Manchester United fans

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has declared that he would go ‘toe-to-toe’ with rivals Manchester City on Sunday 11th.

United went against odds on Wednesday night, beating Juventus 2-1 at their own soil. Previously, Mourinho had claimed a point against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge a game which ended in a scoreline of 2-2. The Portuguese admitted City is a powerful side but they will try to get good results over the weekend.

“We are going to try [to go toe-to-toe]. I cannot say we are going to be successful in our motivations, in our desire, but we played two difficult matches away against two very good teams – Chelsea and Juventus – and we managed to get good results,” said Mourinho.

“And even if the good results were not in our pockets the performances were there, the positive attitude was there. So we are going to try. But you are right, Manchester City are a very powerful team,” he added.

Mourinho is unbeaten in two away derbies, having presided over a goalless draw in April 2017 before their uplifting 3-2 comeback 12 months later.

United have not lost at City in four years, in a game where they were reduced to 10 men as Chris Smalling was sent off.
