Kama video, kama drama! The Northern California camp fire is just like you’ve seen in the movies, only this time, it’s real life.

A destructive and fast-moving wildfire erupted in Northern California on Thursday morning and spread rapidly because of mix howling winds and extremely dry conditions.

The Camp Fire, in Butte County that could not be contained had burned through close to 18,000 acres as of Thursday evening. The Acting Governor, Gavin Newsom declared the camp fire a state of emergency as officials scrambled to evacuate area residents. The wildfire is said to have injured an undisclosed number of civilians and fire fighters who were trying to put out the fire.

Officials said that they had heard reports of fatalities but that they could not yet access the affected areas to confirm those reports.

The fire forced the evacuation of patients from Paradise’s main hospital to hospitals in Oroville and Chico. About 3,300 students and staff members from Paradise’s 11 schools were evacuated in buses and employees’ cars to a center in Chico, Butte County Schools Superintendent Tim Taylor said.

About 500 fire fighters are on the ground now with 100 law enforcement officers helping them. Captain John Gaddie said Cal Fire has put out a call for more fire fighters. A red flag warning is in effect in the area, meaning Thursday will bring 20 to 40 mph winds and low humidity that threaten to spread the wildfire.
Homes have been burnt to the ground, schools and hospitals destroyed, there are families who have reported missing members… It is devastating for the the State because when it is all over, residents will come back to nothing. Questions have been raised about how the state will cope with a warmer and drier climate. However, with the current global warming, it’s not just California that is at risk.
