Here are stars who featured for Manchester United and City

High flying Manchester City host rejuvenated crosstown rivals Manchester United in an English Premier League fixture this Sunday 11th November at the Etihad in what promises to be a cracker.

Futaa takes a look at five players who represented both the red and blue halves of Manchester at one point and the other in their careers.

Andy Cole

Perhaps one of the best strikers to light up the Premier League, Andy Cole started his career in London with Arsenal where he failed to impress and was later shipped out to Bristol City then Newcastle United where he scored a staggering 55 goals in 70 appearances.

His performance at Newcastle earned his a big money move to Manchester United where together with Dwight York, formed one of the most fearsome strike partnerships in the league.

Cole went on to make 195 appearances for the Red Devils and in the process netting 95 times.

Cole’s career after Man Utd was not as successful though after playing for seven clubs in five seasons and finally landing at the other half of Manchester where he managed to score nine goals in 55 appearances as a citizen.

Carlos Tevez

Tevez is perhaps the biggest name on this list to ever play for both Manchester clubs. The bullish Argentine signed for United in 2007 from West Ham United and went on to score 19 goals in 63 appearances.

Two years down the line, Tevez did the unthinkable when he ditched United for City where he scored goals for fun and helped the club win its first Premier League title.

Peter Schmeichel

The Danish goalkeeper was a safe pair of hands and is regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.
Schmeichel signed for City in 2002, three years after departing United and it didn’t go down well with the red half of Manchester.

Owen Hargreaves

Owen Hargreaves time at Manchester United was injury ravaged as he only managed less than 30 appearances in four years. A recurring knee injury almost forced him to retire while at United.

Hargreaves, later on, joined Robert Mancini’s City on a short-term deal and retired after a handful of games at 31.

Andrei Kanchelskis

Andrei Kanchelski was to Manchester United what Andrei Arshavin was to Arsenal. On a good day, he was unstoppable. United signed him from Ukranian powerhouse Shakhtar Donetsk in 1991 before selling him to Everton after four good years at Old Trafford.

After a couple of stints later with Rangers and Fiorentina, the Russian found himself on loan at City where he only managed one goal in ten appearances.
