Why Pogba did not celebrate their win over Juventus

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba says he did not celebrate his side’s win over Juventus because it felt ‘too strange’.

Dominant Juventus took the lead in the second half through former United star Cristiano Ronaldo a goal which seemed the winning one. However, Juan Mata scored a wonderful freekick to bring the visitors on level terms and three minutes later Alex Sandro put the ball into his own net to hand United the lead. Pogba, who left the Italian side two years ago, did not celebrate as he said he had a warm reception from the home fans as he refused to rule out a future return to Juventus.

“Who knows? I’m with United now. There is so much talk about this, but am happy to be playing for Manchester United. The win was important, but the Juve fans gave me such a warm welcome,” Pogba told Sky Italia.

“I didn’t celebrate when we went 2-1 up, it felt too strange. I saw so many people that I know well. We played against a great team and we really had to win. It was wonderful coming back here, although it felt weird going into the ‘away’ locker room. I was so accustomed to the Juve one.”

“The reaction of the fans really moved me, as I missed them and Italian football. It was great to be back in this stadium, where I started out and won big trophies.”

Pogba was heavily linked with a return to Turin after reports indicated that he had fallen out with Jose Mourinho.

Man United’s next assignment will be a Premier League derby against Manchester City at Etihad on Sunday 11th.
