Governor Waititu has the Perfect way of Dealing with “Rats” in Kiambu County

Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu is known to be a man that always offer solutions whenever trouble knocks at his doorstep. From telling us how to deal with those that built on riparian land, the governor has now come up with ways of dealing with ghost workers that have made his county loose cash running into millions in paying unwarranted salaries.

The governor has launched a head count exercise of all county employees to eliminate ghost workers and come up with the exact composition of his county working staff.

The verification exercise that began on Wednesday, is aimed at identifying gaps in service delivery, establish the exact number of employees in the county and reduce wage bill.

Waititu took to his verified Facebook page to announce the exercise that began in Thika, Gatundu North and Gatundu South Sub County headquarters.

“Today my administration is undertaking routine staff head counts and verification exercises in Thika, Gatundu North and Gatundu South Sub County headquarters. There have been reports that some people on payroll may be retirees but still receive salaries. The verification exercise will enable us weed out ghost workers, identify gaps in service delivery and establish the exact number of our employees. This exercise will help us effectively deliver services to the people of Kiambu,” said Waititu

The Governor said he had received reports of ghost workers receiving salary despite them being out of service.

“There have been reports that some people on payroll may be retirees but still receive salaries,” he said.

The County boss noted that the exercise is necessary as it will help in developing a skill inventory and reconcile personnel records.

In Thika, the employees converged at the Thika Sub-county offices where county’s human resource officials from the monitoring and evaluation department conducted the count.

Kiambu county joins a long list of counties loosing millions of shillings to ghost workers with the auditor general Edward Ouko revealing that county governments have lost billions to unscrupulous individuals.

Just some few months ago, a biometric staff audit revealed that Nakuru County government loses Sh26 million annually to ghost workers.

According to the audit report, 23 employees were not accounted for and have been taking home Sh26 million annually as salaries and benefits.
