Notorious quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu is said to have contacted a top criminal lawyer in the city to ask for some help. The lawyer however declined his request perhaps owing to the gravity of the crimes he is facing.
“He asked me to represent him but I declined the request,” said the lawyer, who asked not to be named. Police said they had asked the lawyer to help facilitate Mugo’s safe surrender but he had turned them down.
The flying squad police are looking for the fake doctor for operating an illegal clinic, after an expose by NTV showed him allegedly raping sedated women.
“We are looking for him,” one senior officer from Nairobi Area Police headquarters told local news on Wednesday morning, “we are urging the public to help us because he seem to have gone into hiding.”
Detectives who are currently pursuing Mugo after the latest controversy involving him said he was using at least 15 SIM cards to communicate with different people.
he expose, first aired on Monday, showed Mugo at his Kayole clinic, where he was filmed by secret cameras, operating with impunity, after injecting himself an unknown drug to get high while bragging openly that no one can arrest him.
In the expose, Mugo could also be seen performing illegal abortions on girls and women.
Wairimu first came into the limelight three years ago after he was accused of sedating his female patients and raping them at his illegal clinics in Githurai and Zimmerman estates in the city. He was charged in court.
While Wairimu, advertises himself as a professional Gyanecologist, the Kenya Obstestrical and Gynaecological Society (KOGS) has disowned him, saying “we should not allow patients to suffer at the hands of quacks.”
An officer said Mugo was in Makuyu on Tuesday evening. He then went to Thika town, where he tried to contact the lawyer. “He should surrender to the authorities for processing,” said another officer. Last Saturday, two of Mugo’s employees were arrested at Millan clinic for operating without the required documents.
