Sonko Prioritizes Rehabilitation of Street Children

Nairobi County Governor  Mike Sonko has prioritized the rehabilitation of Nairobi Street Children.

In his speech during the autism campaign, Sonko revealed this as one of his key administration agendas.

Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by troubles with social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior.

Parents usually notice signs during the first two or three years of their child’s life.

These signs often develop gradually, though some children with autism reach their developmental milestones at a normal pace before worsening.

Have a look at his speech…

Rehabilitation of street children is one of my administration’s key agenda. In an effort to ensure our rehab centers offer quality services, today Nairobi County First Lady Primrose Mbuvi is at Makadara Rehabilitation Center for Autism Awareness Campaign by Donating Boxes and Shoes as part of the Autism Acceptance Awareness Campaign.

I thank the Umoja Foundation, Autism Lights Incorporated, Iman Organization, Nero and all the other organisations that have joined in making this day a success.

Autism is still a misunderstood condition in Kenya. More needs to be done to educate the public about the disorder. Many parents of young children have very little knowledge about the signs of autism and therefore do not seek help early enough. While there is currently no cure for autism, early detection and intervention can result in critical improvement.

You can help assist children with autism and their families by supporting various initiatives that seek to raise awareness and provide material donations. The boxes and shoes we will be collecting will help these children in their learning and comfort. I urge all of us to get involved to increase understanding and acceptance of those with autism.

I thank you all for participating in this noble initiative.
