Why a modern market with fire suppression systems should be put up at Gikomba.

Guess what, ANOTHER FIRE, another fire in Gikomba, what’s really happening? Should Gikomba  be flattened and a new modern market with emergency facilities built there?  For how long will we be having fires everyday and no one is arrested and charged? It is on a Wednesday November 7, 2018 morning and Kenyans wake up in a breaking news from the Kenya Red cross!

They wrote,”Gikomba Market in Nairobi is on fire. Response teams are at the scene. Updates to follow.”

The cause of the fire however remains unknown.

Gikomba burns almost every quarter of the Year, can’t we make this an yearly event?

In March 2012 the fire broke out at the market. In March 2014, another fire again broke out at the market. As if it was not enough, another fire yet again broke out at Gikomba in October 2014. In June 2015, we witnessed another fire at the largest city market. All those fires were not enough and in  October 2017 the market was again in flames. The year ended, 2018 came and we were almost forgetting the past incidents and business had resumed to normal. In June 2018 another fire broke out at the market gutting more houses and costing lives of some people. Traders tried to put up other stalls to continue with their businesses and the government halted the process, assuring them that it was going to put up for them, but did it?
