Waititu and Co. Scramble For Ruto’s Sumptuous Lunch

Days after hosting Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for a lunch at his Karen residence in Nairobi, the aroma from deputy President William Ruto’s kitchen seem to have finally caught up with leaders from Kiambu.

The leaders, led by Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu were today hosted by the deputy President at his Karen office in Nairobi.

Ruto urged the leaders to focus on development and improving the lives of Kenyans.

“Let us focus on development and improving the lives of wananchi through concerted action. When leaders work in harmony, share ideas and collaborate, the country gains,” said Ruto

The Kiambu leader’s visit has been seen as a huge boost to Ruto’s confidence ahead of the highly anticipated showdown in 2022. There have been claims that leaders from the Mount Kenya region are divided on whether to support Ruto or not. There have been claims that some sections of the leaders want to forge a whole new alliance all together and lock out the deputy president from ascending to power.

Questions have been asked on whether President Kenyatta will honor the deal he struck with William Ruto. Last week, during a visit to Nyeri the President said that his pick for the presidency will shock some of us. Who is his choice? Why will his apparent choice shock us? Well, only time will tell.

Nominated senator Isaac Mwaura had earlier hinted that the Mount Kenya region will not support any deal they feel will oppress the people from the area.

Various politicians from the central region like former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and Peter Kenneth have been rumoured to be eyeing the top seat too. Outspoken Gatundu south MP Moses Kuria has also revealed that he will be on the ballot come 2022.

Waititu’s visit to William Ruto might also be viewed as a Slap on William Kabogo’s face. Kabogo had earlier hinted that Ruto should stop dreaming about ever ascending to the country’s top most seat if the previous happenings in the country are anything to go by. Kabogo say’s that only Moi rose to power from within by climbing to the ranks of President when he succeeded the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and that no other politician has ever rose to the Presidency from within.

“During change of guard (after completion of the term of a sitting president the incoming president must come from outside to get to power. To climb to power from within(VP/DP) happened only once when Mzee Moi succeeded Hayati Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. Hustler think!,” said Kabogo.

Well, the Kiambu leader’s visit of Ruto will surely silence most of the DPs critics from the Mount Kenya region. Question is, For how long?
