Auka drowned on Saturday alongside Sharlet Atieno, a student at Bondo Technical Training Institute who slipped and fell into the river. Ouka tried to rescue her and it was then when he was carried away by the current.

According to Stephanie, a Kabianga University student who was at the scene, “We burst into laughter but that soon turned into panic when she failed to resurface. Realising how dire the situation was, Mr Ouka jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue a drowning friend,” said Ms. Stephanie.
