Renowned media personality Caroline Mutoko has pointed out two vulnerabilities infamous self-proclaimed doctor Mugo Wairimu uses to lure women. According to Mutoko, the quack doctor has been capitalising on the fact that most women in the society rely on referrals for products and service providers.
“A lot of us would take an OB-GYN (obstetrics and gynaecology) on referral just as we do on hair, nails and purchases.
“Women work on referrals. We don’t believe in our decisions. We don’t investigate, we don’t trust ourselves,” she stated.
Besides, Mutoko opined that Mugo has been exploiting the fact that women have been socialised to keep quiet.
In her view, questioning of referrals is frowned upon hence many women would rather hold their silence than go against their friends.
“Even if I go there and I don’t like it, I don’t want to say; “I didn’t like your guy” since I don’t want to offend my friend,” she adds.
She pointed out how this may have led many of Mugo’s victims to keep silent despite suspecting that something was amiss.
According to Mutoko, this saw the victims proceed home without reporting the matter to police hence tampering with critical forensic evidence.
“Questioning is frowned upon, having an alternative opinion is frowned on, we should start having a voice.
Mutoko concluded that most women are muzzled by fellow women including their friends and relatives which saw Mugo walk scott-free after the first exposé due to lack of evidence.
