A tweet by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale in praise of Deputy President William Ruto has gone all wrong after Kenyans decided to attack him.
It all started when Khalwale bragged about how the Deputy President paid sh 100k to Mama Susan Mukhasia, who had served him with tea in her kiosk. The bill was supposed to be sh 250.
On Sunday, Ruto and other Luhya leaders took shelter in Mama Susan’s kiosk after rains disrupted their public rally in Sianda market, Kakamega County.
The leaders, among them Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka and Sports CS Rashid Echesa decided to feast on a cup of tea and hot chapatis.
While taking refuge when the rains disrupted our public meeting at Shianda, Mumias, Kakamega County, we enjoyed nice tea and chapati at Mama Susan Mkhasia’s kiosk. pic.twitter.com/wdKHlmpcaM

It has now emerged that the DP, who is a self proclaimed hustler, paid 100k and told the woman to keep the change.
“Yesterday a lucky Susan Mugasia served tea worth Sh 250/- to @WilliamsRuto & these VIPs at her kiosk at Shianda market in Kakamega. The Deputy President gave her Sh 100,000/- en told her to keep change!” Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale posted on his Twitter handle.
Instead of being praised, Khalwale received a backlash from netizens who claimed that these are just politics of handcheque.
Politics of handouts…in stead of putting policies which are business friendly to low economies. You all lack vision for Kenya.

People in this country are suffering and its very shameful for you and your entourage to publicise this nonense,DP should be busy formulating policies that can uplift our poor Kenyans instead of pretending to care, what you post does not belong in this space,so disheartening.

The only good thing about this is that the lady has received part of looted public funds. The culture of handouts is practiced by politicians who have nothing to tell the people. They buy support.

Is it right to criticize Ruto for paying for the tea?
