Migori Residents Spit On Raila’s Face

At the mention of the name Migori County, everyone stops whatever they are doing and listen. This is a county that has been making headlines for the better part of the year.

From the death of their senator, to their governor’s troubles with the law to their women rep’s grisly road accident, it will be proper to say that the county in South Nyanza needs some Spiritual intervention.

That aside, the county is once again in the headlines as it is set to host the deputy President, someone that has been considered as the biggest threat to Raila Odinga’s dreams of ever ascending to the Country’s top most seat.

Governor Okoth Obado will host the deputy President in his backyard. Political pundits have viewed this as a slap on Mr. Odinga’s face. It will be remembered that Raila Odinga openly told Obado to carry his own cross when the governor was faced with a huge court battle because of Murder.

Mr Nicholas Anyuor, the director of communication in the governor’s office, confirmed the trip, saying preparations to receive the DP were on course.

“We are all set to receive the DP for the development tour,” he said.

But Mr Anyuor was quick to reject the perception of political undertones in the visit, maintaining it is meant to spur development in the region.

Ruto will be in Suna West Sub-county where he will launch the construction of the tarmac road between Masara and Muhuru beach and later address a public rally at Masara trading centre.

Kuria West member of parliament (MP) Mathias Robi, who is a close ally of Mr Ruto, confirmed the DP will be in the county to commission the construction of the road as part of the Jubilee administration’s promise to develop all regions in Kenya.

Migori residents have joined their governor in welcoming Mr. Ruto to their home tuff with many saying what they care about is development and not useless political rhetorics.

“We want those trying to bring politics into the development agenda to stop it,” said John Odera, a resident from Migori.

“We are happy that the DP is coming to visit us. We are happy because the road that he will be coming to commission will help us,’ he added.

Ruto’s Visit to Migori and Homa bay has sent jitters among Raila Odinga’s point-men in Luo Nyanza with many dismissing the tour as being purely political.

Indeed apart from development, Ruto is exepected to engage in a little bit of politics. In Homa bay county, Jubilee’s pointman is Engineer James Rege. Will Ruto try to get to the good side of Governor Obado and bring the governor to his side?

Okoth Obado is the only known politician from Luo Nyanza that has openly opposed Raila odinga’s political antics and somehow got away with it. The governor even opposed ODM’s candidate Ochillo Ayacko in the just concluded Senatorial by-elections. In fact pundits say that if the governor was not a guest of the state at Industrial Area, ODM would have had a long day in Migori.

Do you think Migori County Residents are justified in welcoming Ruto to the region despite his political differences with Raila Odinga?
