Ahead of their meeting with Juventus and cross-town rivals Manchester City in the span of five days, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has sent a warning to both teams noting results against them will galvanize their season.
Manchester United face Juventus on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League before making the short trip to Etihad Stadium to face arch-rivals Manchester City in the Manchester Derby on Sunday. After enduring a difficult to season, Smalling believes that United have what it takes to win in Turn and at Manchester City.
Smalling admitted that wins against Manchester City and Juventus will galvanize the team when asked how important this week’s results will be, “It would galvanize us. Knowing that we have had some big games this month and that we have gone toe to toe and picked up good results. This month it’s all about this making sure we can move up the table after some tough games.”
The former Fulham defender assured fans of a better performance against Juventus after losing the first leg 1-0, “But we showed in the second half we could give them a game and if we can take that second-half performance to Turin we will be more on the front foot and I think you’ll see a better performance than you did at Old Trafford.”
