Is Ruto launching grand-coalition projects in Nyanza?

Deputy President William Ruto is expected to tour the Nyanza region today, in the counties of Migori and Homa Bay. The DP tours the region in his ‘tangatanga’ tours to launch several development projects. Could you imagine that the DP, who is a great political revival to ODM leader Raila Odinga, could one time take goodies to Odinga’s backyard?

Key among the projects set to be launched is the 45-km Kanyadhiang’-Kadel ring road.

He is also set to launch electrification projects, under the Last Mile Connectivity, in Karachuonyo constituency before heading to Migori.

In Homa Bay, the DP will be hosted by Karachuonyo MP Adipo Okuome and county officials.

Ketraco chairman and former Karachuonyo MP James Rege will accompany the DP on the tour.

In Migori, Ruto will commission Kehancha-Muhuru road, street lighting at Masara trading centre, and last mile at Muhuru market.

Suna West MP Peter Masara and Governor Okoth Obado will host the deputy president in Migori.

But do you know that all the projects set to be launched by DP Ruto have been criticized by Raila’s close allies? ODM legislators from the region led by ODM chairman John Mbadi and Suna East MP Junnet Mohammed warned against Ruto’s tour to Odinga’s backyard.

The ODM chairman yesterday said some of the projects Ruto will be launching today, were commissioned by President Mwai Kibaki’s Grand Coalition government, which had Odinga as the prime minister.

According to Mbadi, Kanyadhiang ring road and Kehancha-Muhuru road were started by the coalition between Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

What will DP Ruto be lauching then, if their claims were true? Well, the leaders further cautions that Ruto’s tour is aimed at undermining the handshake that was witnessed between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila on March 9, 2018. He has not less than once accused of commissioning and launching projects that are either not there or already completed long time ago, but why is he always to blame on such cases?

However, political analysts have maintained that Ruto’s tour to Nyanza region aims at marketing his 2022 presidential candidature and not spearheading for the big four agenda as claimed, but will he manage to get a following from Odinga’s main backyard?
