Details of Uhuru fruitful tour to China

Kenyans actually thought that President  Uhuru had travelled to China again to ask for another loan but that was not the case.President Uhuru over the weekend led top government officials to China where he was expected to seal a deal allowing setting up of a silk shop in Kenya.

Top officials of the Gaungdong Silk Tex Group, led by its chairman Ke Huiqi met the President on Sunday and confirmed plans to put up a silk processing factory at the export of processing zone in Athi River.

The venture, in partnership with the University of Nairobi, is expected to create over 300,000 jobs for Kenyans at the juncture of its commencement.The joint venture would include exchange programmes with leading Chinese universities as well as capacity building for Kenyan doctors dealing with cancer patients.

Kenyatta, who is among chief guests at the China International Import Expo, said the trade fair provides a platform for more winning partnership between Kenya and China.

Earlier, President Kenyatta and his Chinese counterpart President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks at the Xijiano State Guest Hotel in Shangai during which they discussed measures to strengthen trade and investment ties between china and Kenya.

The president also met Chinese investors eyeing opportunities at the Lamu port. President Jinping promised to take measures to correct trade imbalance between China and Kenya.

In an interview with a local radio station, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma said Kenya had identified the new trade pact as vital to attaining a fair balance of trade.

“We are keen on addressing the existing trade imbalance and that is why we want to open up the Chinese market to our goods and services,” CS Juma said during the October 23 interview when she sat down with this writer.
