Blankets & Wine: Nairobi’s biggest music festival is upon us

Are you are lover of live music and good vibes? Then Blankets and Wine should be part of your weekend plan.

One of Kenya’s biggest outdoor music event, Blankets & Wine will tomorrow mark its 10th anniversary on Sunday at the Ngong Racecourse in it’s second festival this year.

In an interview, musician and founder of Blankets and Wine, Muthoni Drummer Queen said that this Sunday’s event will commemorate “10 years of building, serving and learning as well as a moment to celebrate the coming of age of Kenyan artistes as global headliners.”

In what will undoubtedly be a celebration of the coming of age of ‘alternative’ Kenyan music, the 10th anniversary of Blankets and Wine brings together an all-Kenyan lineup.

The artists expected to grace the event will be DJ Suraj, celebrated Kenyan boy band, Sauti Sol, Producer and DJ, Blinky Bill who recently launched his debut album Everyone’s Just Winging It And Other Fly Tales, the amazing duo of Chris Adwar and Atemi Oyungu, renowned rapper Nyashinski who made a comeback and took the industry by storm. 

The Blankets and Wine founder Muthoni the Drummer Queen is also expected to rock the stage with hits from her recent album ‘She.’

The live music scene in Kenya has grown in leaps and bounds over the past decade when Muthoni DQ through her Blankets and Wine festival introduced Kenyans to a lifestyle that has since changed the way local music and especially live music is perceived and appreciated.

 The celebrated artiste has been the frontier in delivering quality shows and featuring artistes whose music would not otherwise get airplay on mainstream radio stations. It is through such festivals that Kenyans have learned to appreciate alternative music.

Blankets and wine also gives creatives such as visual artists, painters, stylists, culinary artists, and others also get to mingle with clientele and sell their art.

So are you ready for the biggest music festival of 2018 in Nairobi.

Advance tickets are selling on Mookh at Ksh. 300o. Fans have been advised to avoid Ngong road because of the ongoing road works and use the Southern bypass instead. Fans have also been asked to arrive an hour before time to allow for the security checks.

You better heed the advise because you don’t want to miss a single performance.

Get your shukas, your sunnies, your bottle of wine and your dancing shoes ready and prepare to have a good time.
