Lightning cuts short the joy of KCPE candidates to mourning.

What is the best feeling other than the joy that comes after finishing exams and you’re optimistic that you did your best?

In fact just feeling alone of finishing school is so much satisfying to many students.

But that joy can easily be washed away by sadness, something unexpected can ruin the celebrations.

Grief struck a village in Homa Bay county after two students including a KCPE candidate were killed by lightening.

Swinton Odhiambo, who had just complete his Standard Eight examinations at  Kawuor Primary School and Calvin Ochieng, a Form Two student at Obera Secondary School, met their deaths at 5pm as they were playing football at a local playground in Kabuoch village, Ndhiwa Sub – County .

Two other students sustained burns and were taken to a local hospital.

Assistant chief John Otonge said the duo were pronounced dead on arrival the hospital.

This according to the Luo community can be termed as bad omen.Some even may associate this horrific strike by lightning as witchcraft. The region has strong cultural beliefs.

Even though the children are now advised to stay in doors when it is raining.

 

“The KCPE candidate was said to be full of joy after sitting for the exams and was sure of passing the national tests,” Mr Otonge said.
