How I met My soul-mate Jacque Maribe: The story of Denis Itumbi

Dennis Itumbi has been a butt of all jokes and memes on social media over his decision to stand with embattled Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe.

Things got uglier for Itumbi this week, when the High Court decided to release Jacque on bail and deny the same privileges to her boyfriend Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu.

The couple has been charged with the murder of Monica Kimani in her apartment at Lamuria Gardens in Kilimani Estate in September.

Immediately after Maribe’s release, Kenyans were quick to tell Itumbi to take advantage of Jowie’s absence and win the celebrity journalist back.

After all, Itumbi has been all over Maribe in court and on social media where he has been penning support messages like an adolescent boy falling in love for the first time.

Anyway, amidst all these claims and accusations, Itumbi has come out to describe his relationship with Jacque Maribe. According to the State House Director of Digital and Diaspora Communications, the two are very close friends who met more than 10 years ago.

“I am a pig farmer that is how I introduced myself to Jacque Maribe just before a press conference at a Nairobi hotel, a decade or so ago. She was working with K24 at the time and I was a correspondent for the People Daily.” Itumbi says as quoted by The Standard.

Itumbi says that the conversation has never stopped since that day.

” It blossomed into a friendship that has seen both of us celebrate highs and go through hell. The common denominator is that we have remained good friends. So strong is our friendship that it has been scripted by blogs, mainstream media pages and social media into a story of love. Looking at it on face value, one would be convinced, on a balance of probabilities that we indeed were once in love.”

According to Itumbi, the two have never dated for theirs is a friendship with deeper roots than just love.

“By the way, just the other day, I told her – as her very supportive father and mother listened – that people are saying I am trying to win you back. “Tell them, we share a soul. Something deeper than love, a friendship that words can only spell but not explain,” she responded. “Remand has made you a poet, yeah…” I urge her on.”

Do you believe that Jacque Maribe and Itumbi have never dated?
