Should Obado be worried? Justice Lessit sentences another Murderer to life imprisonment

It is almost a week since Migori governor Okoth Obado left the corridors of Industrial Area police remand and we still can’t stop to feel sorry for him.

The governor could be cooling his feet in a bathtub in Migori and maybe having a massage, but that could only be temporary freedom. That is if the actions of Lady Justice Jessie Lessit are anything to go by.

The no nonsense judge was back in court on Thursday morning, and this time handed a life sentence to a convicted murderer.

This time the unlucky person was  a Rwandese woman called Antoinette Uniweza, otherwise known as Michelin Uwababyyi.

Antoinette had been accused of killing her friend Winnie Uwambaye and her seven her seven month baby in 2013. The incident took place in February of 2013 at Sahara Lodge in Nairobi.

According to evidence, the two women had argued over a white boyfriend. In her ruling, Justice Lessit said that Antoinnette had killed her friend  “with malice and in a brutal manner.”

The new ruling will send shivers down Obado’s spine and his lawyer Cliff Ombeta. Obado is facing double murder charges. He has been accused of killing his girlfriend Sharon Otieno and his unborn son.

Sharon’s mutilated body was found in a thicket in Kodera forest on 5th September. She had been reported missing two days earlier.

An autopsy report revealed that she had been gang raped before being stabbed eight times. One of the stabs penetrated her belly and killed her unborn child.

Obado and his two aides; Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero were arrested and charged with the murder.

Justice Lessit demonstrated that she doesn’t fear anyone by keeping the governor for 34 days at the Industrial Area remand prison.

She then released him on bail last week but not before he paid a sh 5 million cash bail and two sureties of the same amount. In fact the governor had to spend another day in remand as his lawyers struggled with the bail conditions.

In July this year, Justice Lessit unapologetically handed a death sentence to the most beautiful prisoner Ruth Kamande for killing her boyfriend.

She said that it was important that young people realised killing a boyfriend or girlfriend is “not cool.”
