It is the case of An Imam in Malindi who Today was found guilty of sodomising his nine-year-old stepson and buying his silence with Sh 10.
The primary responsibility of an imam is to lead Islamic worship services. In fact, the word “imam” itself means “to stand in front of” in Arabic, referring to placement of the imam in front of the worshipers during prayer.
Malindi Principal Magistrate Silvia Wewa said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the renowned imam in the county, had sodomised the minor.
He committed the offence on March 23, 2016.
Ms Wewa gave the prosecution two weeks to conduct a social audit of the accused before he is sentenced. She ordered the convict be remanded at the Malindi Maximum Prison for 14 days.
