Itumbi On Fire As Maribe’s “Guest of the State” Status Are Extended

Jacque Maribe might have been freed by the high court yesterday but her stay at Langata Women’s prison has apparently been extended by the state even after adhering to the set bond process.

According to Itumbi, Maribe’s bond process was completed at 12 pm but she is yet to be let free meaning she might spend another night at Langata.

“Interesting events at the Deputy Registrar in the High Court. We completed the bond process for our friend Jacque Maribe at 12pm and till now no progress & she is looking at another night in prison despite being freed by The Court yesterday,” said Itumbi

Itumbi further reveals that Maribe’s family showed up at the High Court at 7am to secure her release, something they haven’t been able to do yet.

Maribe was yesterday freed on a cash bail of Ksh. 1 million with three sureties of a similar amount or Ksh. 2 million bond with one surety of a similar amount.

In his ruling, Justice James Wakiaga indicated that there was no indication that she is a flight risk and Prosecution did not prove that she would interfere with witnesses.

“Based on the materials placed I am unable to agree with the prosecution that Maribe will interfere or abscond court or act in any manner prejudicial” ruled Justice Wakiaga.

The court however directed that Maribe should not read news during the period that the case is fixed for hearing.

“That the 2nd accused shall not make any contact with witnesses either directly or indirectly until determination of the case,” ruled Justice Wakiaga.

Joseph Irungu; the first accused was however denied bail. In denying Jowie bail, the court ruled that he has extensively traveled to Middle East with no known assets in the country and his willingness to surrender the passport is no guarantee that he will not jump bail or abscond court.

Further, the court noted that Jowie had no fixed aboard and no evidence before court that if released he would have a place to live so likely to abscond court.

Justice Wakiaga further indicated that his access to firearms and his already displayed love for guns could create fear and intimidation among the witnesses.
