‘So Useless’ Fans BLAST Erik Lamela after Tottenham star’s horror miss vs Man City

Riyad Mahrez’s goal was enough to earn Pep Guardiola’s side the points against Tottenham.

The pitch at Wembley was in terrible condition after Sunday’s NFL showdown between Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Before the match Mauricio Pochettino revealed he is enduring his “worst feeling” since taking over as Spurs boss.

“The season so far, it’s strange because my feeling is the worst I’ve had in the five years that I’ve been here,” Pochettino said.

“It’s so difficult to explain because many things happen, I am disappointed we are still waiting for the new stadium when the expectation was to be there at the beginning of the season.”

Spurs’ squad is beginning to wear thin after Daniel Levy refused to make any new signings in the summer.

One player that has been a shining light this season is Erik Lamela.

The Argentine has five goals in nine appearances this season.

But the former Roma man squandered Spurs’ best chance of the night against City.

Collecting the ball from Dele Alli, Lamela was through one on one with Hugo Lloris.

Lamela fired the ball over the bar and appeared to look down at the turf to blame a bobble.

Liverpool fans took to Twitter to vent their anger as they hoped Spurs would do them a favour in the title race.

“Lamela scores that if it was spurs v Liverpool,” one fan said.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said of the miss: “When the ball was going to Erik I said ‘goal’ but no, watching the replay, the ball just bounced before his boot and that is why he missed.

“I think it was a great game in difficult circumstances. I feel very proud. The effort was fantastic and we competed really really well. It is a shame we conceded after five minutes but the team was good. I am happy with the performance.”

It is a good thing that the footballers can take all the negative comments from the fans and use them to improve their form. Hopefully Lamela will also do that.
