‘No one is above the law’, Manchester United footballer Paul Pogba hit with £350 fine

You can be rich and famous but the law has its own way to get to you.Man United mid firlder was not so lucky as he Paul Pogba appeared before magistrates on Monday as he was hit with a speeding charge. He was docked three points on his licence after he was clocked doing 40mph in a 30mph zone on September 15 last year.

The 25-year-old had appeared before magistrates in Preston, accused of failing to provide details to the police. That charge was dismissed.

But he wasn’t spared over the speeding.

And when District Judge Nicholas Sanders asked the Manchester United midfielder whether he could afford the £350 fine, Pogba gave a simple one-word reply: “Yes”.

The player, who could United a then world record £89million when he re-joined the club from Italian giants Juventus two years ago, was also ordered to pay £115 costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

Pogba was seen leaving as a passenger in a Rolls Royce once he left the court hearing. The midfielder was on the scoresheet last Sunday as he helped United defeat Everton 2-1 in the Premier League.

Although he missed a penalty before converting a rebound, Pogba produced an outstanding performance in which he also laid on Anthony Martial’s winning goal.

He even managed to impress one of his biggest critics this season in Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness.

Speaking on Sunday, Souness said: “I thought he was really good.

“Apart from this [the penalty run-up]. This for me is ‘look at me, look at me, I want to be in the spotlight’.

“I just don’t get this penalty, but I think he’s moved the ball quickly today, he’s been uncomplicated.

“I think he’s been really good.”

The result moved Manchester United into eighth place in the table, six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal and nine away from early pacesetters Man City and Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho’s side can close the gap, albeit temporarily, this weekend when they take on high-flying Bournemouth (who are three points ahead in sixth) in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at the Vitality Stadium.
