Manchester United managed to beat Everton 2-1 on Sunday in the Premier League courtesy of Goals from Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial earned Jose Mourinho’s men all three points. Martial went down in the Everton box in the first half, and a spot-kick was awarded. That lead to Pogba’s goal. However TV replays revealed that Idrissa Gueye tackled Martial before the French forward hit the deck.
The issue of whether Martial cheated against Everton has been reviewed by the FA. As reported in the Times on Tuesday, the FA have reached a decision. In good news for Man United, Martial has got away without punishment after the FA panel couldn’t all agree on whether the forward dived:
A three-person panel, consisting of an ex-referee, an ex-player and a former manager, reviewed footage of the incident this morning and they could not come to a unanimous decision on the case. FA rules state there must be “clear and overwhelming evidence to suggest a match official has been deceived by an act of simulation” for a player to be given a retrospective ban.
