Why Lukaku was dropped from Manchester squad

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that the reason for dropping Romelu Lukaku in the game against Everton was down to the striker’s poor run of form.

Lukaku had gone eight games without finding the back of the net for Manchester United which is his worse run of form since signing for Manchester United last season. Marcus Rashford was preferred ahead of Lukaku in the starting line up with the Belgian dropping to the bench.

Mourinho opened up on his decision to drop Lukaku in his starting lineup, “The reason is he is playing lots of matches and lately, not ust not scoring goals, but also not showing lots of confidence. Sometimes we decide that the best thing for the players is to not be on the pitch, to be protected and away from the initial pressure.”
