Nepotism maybe? Raila appoints daughter as his assistant

Would you agree to work for your father? Well, according to Kenyan blogger, Robert Alai, Winnie Odinga is now her father, Raila Odinga’s new assistant.

Raila Odinga was recently appointed High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa where he will work to support and strengthen African Union (AU) departments and those of the Planning and Coordinating Agency of New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

In an interview with Pulse last year, Winnie Odinga said that she has always been her father’s right hand man.

“I work for my dad. I have worked for him for as long as I can remember. I’m his bodyguard, his briefcase carrier, travel companion or even driver if need be,” said the former Prime Minister’s daughter.

Here are some of the reactions to blogger Alai’s allegations.

As a special envoy of the AU chairperson, Raila will have an office in Addis Ababa but will frequently travel across the continent to mediate in peace negotiations and conflict resolution.

If the allegations are true, it is clear that the KOT have mixed feelings about Hon. Raila Odinga’s choice to appoint his daughter as his assistant.

How do you as an individual feel about this? Is it outright nepotism or is Winnie Odinga actually competent for the job?
