Most of us know Willy Paul from the ‘Sitolia’ days. That is when he came to the limelight after a collabo with a gospel artist; Gloria Muliro who is believed to have been his mentor during the ‘Sitolia’ times.
The song is believed to have been a reflection of his life history, depicting the struggles he had gone through but giving himself a renewed hope that God had been faithful enough to bring him to fame.
His journey is a black and white picture to most of his fans and maybe this could be a reason why he is always seen to be in trouble with fans or ends up being judged for being himself.
His close associates could have a different story to tell about him although the painted perception among Kenyans could be totally different.
Perhaps there is too much expectations from his Kenyan fans simply because he is a gospel artist but come to think of it would it be any different if he publicly declared that he was a secular artist?
What then would be the impact of his music? Even with people passing judgement Willy Paul still thrives in the gospel Industry and has quite notable achievements and a sense of impact that only who those can relate would understand him.
His manner of doing things might be questionable as some choose to put it.. or simply misleading but how does he feel about it? Is it one of the things that brings him closer to his fame? Being controversial is what sells in the today’s entertainment industry.. so is this a path he has chosen or the perception is blown out of proportion?
How does he deal with all this drama and judgement? Well this video from back in the day got me thinking.
In most cases he fights back.. he recently reacted to insults after his video where he is seen flashing his money in a video.
He is on record saying that only God should judge him.. and recently he said that no one should judge him if he/ she is clueless about his journey.
