Eric Omondi speaking during an interview revealed that according to the Kenyan law on marriage, he qualifies to be called a married man.
Eric Omondi is said to have proposed to his girlfriend Chantal Grazioli, also known as Miss Chanty and asked for marriage 2 years ago. Chantal Grazioli had no idea about Eric Omondi’s plan.
The two have been together for years and I guess they have been living together.
A couple of years ago, the Cabinet approved a law which will recognise come-we-stay arrangements of over six months as legal marriages.
The Marriage Bill proposes that chiefs will consider ‘come-we-stay’ affairs that last more than six months as a marriage and to register them as such.
‘Come-we-stay’ unions happens when a man and a woman commence living together as husband and wife without formalising of their union.
Speaking about formalizing their union Eric Omondi did not disclose on the detailed plans but seemingly suggested that it might be a simple occasion where they might even go to Sheria house.. to formalize the marriage.
“Wakenya wanataka nifanye harusi wanauliza harusi ni lini.. wakenya wanataka harusi…naomba Willis Raburu tuanze kuchanga….” he jokingly said
The comedian joked about how they will come up with a paybill number and whenever people ask when he will marry he will strike back asking when they will send their contribution.
“By the laws of the government if you stay with a man for 6 months, it is done.. mimi nitafanya harusi tu.. ile ya kusolemnize but..”
“Yes I am a married man”
