Him being the boss now, Unai Emery has insisted that he is not thinking about making Arsenal history, even though the club’s 1-0 victory over Sporting last night has taken them to within three matches of their all-time winning record.
Danny Welbeck struck late in Lisbon to ensure that Arsenal won their eleventh match in a row across all competitions and preserved their flawless record in the Europa League this season.
The club are now within touching distance of their all-time record, set during the 1987/88 season under George Graham. The club managed to string together 14 wins between September and November — one more than Arsene Wenger’s best run of 13.

Arsenal next play Crystal Palace and Blackpool, knowing that another two wins will earn them the chance to equal the longstanding record when they take on Liverpool in the Premier League. But Emery has urged caution — especially considering Arsenal’s poor recent record against Palace.
“Three matches is a lot of matches,” he said. “We are thinking only of our next match against Crystal Palace and we want to make sure we enjoy this moment with our supporters. It is very important to enjoy our work and there is a very high demand on us.
“On Sunday we play a match at a stadium that has been historically difficult for us. We are already thinking about the three points against Crystal Palace but it is very difficult to win there. We want to continue winning but we know that we can lose at any moment.”
Arsenal started slowly in Lisbon but never looked in serious danger of conceding and Welbeck’s late goal saw them steal all three points.
The victory means that Arsenal are now in pole position to top their Europa League group and avoid a Champions League cast-off in the Round of 32 stage, but Emery was more encouraged with the manner in which his side readjusted in the second-half to beat Sporting.
“In the ninety minutes many different things happened, tactically,” he added.

“The first-half was not easy for us. And the balance of the two teams meant that there were not a lot of chances to score. But step by step we imposed our play in the second-half and we played to win this match.
“The result is important because we want to finish first in this group. Sporting is the other team at the top with us, so we are happy.”
I bet the gunners will do everything to keep winning.
