National assembly minority leader John Mbadi, is in line to receive a honorary award during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Although it is not clear why the the Suba South MP will be awarded, most people suspect it has something to do with his efforts to ensure the controversial Finance Bill 2018, which imposed an eight percent tax on petroleum products, was passed by parliament.
According to the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee, Mbadi has been listed for an Elder of Order of the Golden Heart.
Also to be awarded are Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and Deputy Majority Leader Jimmy Angwenyi .
Angwenyi – who is the longest serving MP in the 12th Parliament – and Senate Deputy Majority Leader Fatuma Dullo are up for the Moran of the Golden Heart.
Narok County Woman Representative Soipan Tuya and Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu who are members of the Speaker’s Panel have been listed for the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear.
Minority Deputy Whip Chris Wamalwa, Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman Kimani Ichung’wah, CDF Committee Chairman Maoka Maore, Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir and Nominated Senator Agnes Zani are proposed for the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear award.
Godana Gufu a retired food and beverage supervisor in the PSC Catering department and retired Sergeant-at-Arms David Omura are also nominated to receive a Head of State Commendation.
The Advisory Committee which was established to assist the presidency in selecting nominees within the Legislature for conferment of national honours says members of the public have until Wednesday to submit their objections or general comment on the nominees to the two Clerks of Parliament.
The Honours Advisory Committee which is chaired by the Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate said in the selection, the committee is guided by the lawmakers’ ubiquitous work track record, responsibilities held and longevity of their service to the nation.
Some of the people who have received Presidential awards in the past are the famous Githeri Man, and Jacque Maribe, now a murder suspect.
