24 Alshababs killed in Billis Qooqani attack

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have killed 24 Al Shabaab fighters  in Bilis Qooqani, in the southern part of Somalia

The attack happened at around midnight when a group of militants ambushed a KDF camp near the town.

The close quarter battle that lasted for more than 30 minutes, ended with 24 fatalities while many others escaped with wounds.

KDF recovered 25 AK-47 rifles, one PKM machine gun and assorted rounds of ammunition.

Unfortunately, three soldiers drawn from the Special Operations Regiment (SOR) sustained injuries.

Bilis Qooqaani is a town in the Afmadow district of the Lower Juba region of southern Somalia.

It lies approximately 70 kilometres away from the Kenya-Somali border.

In October, Kenya Police  had issued  a terror alert ,stating that they had noted the increased movement of the militants towards the Kenya-Somali border.

“Our officers are on high alert, monitoring their movements so as to counter any attempts by these criminals to cross over to the country to cause fear and despondency” read the press release.

They called upon members of the public, particularly those living along the border, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement by individuals or groups to any nearest security personnel.

This comes after te impnding attack by the terror group on two major building in Nairobi circulate however the  police have denied giving any warning.

Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet has denied reports of an impending attack on two buildings in Nairobi’s CBD. The report which quoted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had warned of an impending attack by terror group al-Shabaab on Times Tower and the Treasury building.

According to the alert, which has now been termed as completely misleading and not factual, the attack was to be masterminded and headed by Ahmed Harith Mahmoud and five other operatives.

The report had claimed al-Shabaab militants were targeting Times Tower and the Treasury building in the CBD – It said the attacks are being led by wanted terrorist Ahmed Harith Mahmoud – Harith and his five associates had been monitoring the two buildings ahead of their evil scheme – His five associates were said to be residing in Nairobi’s Kariobangi and Umoja estates Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet has denied reports of an impending attack on two buildings in Nairobi’s CBD. According to the alert, the attack is to be masterminded and headed by Ahmed Harith Mahmoud and five other operatives. The attack was planned to be carried between Sunday, October 28 and Sunday, November 4. Police said Harith is an associate and logistician of Ahmed Iman Ali alias Engineer leader of al-Shabaab from Majengo, Nairobi. Iman is currently based in Somalia.

The intelligence report said Harith has been conducting reconnaissance of the two buildings in the last few months. The intelligence further revealed that his five associates include four men and a lady all residing in Nairobi’s Kariobangi and Umoja estates. Police are now on high alert to thwart the impending attack and arrest the terrorists.

In the last few months terror attacks by al-Shabaab have increased with group carrying several attacks in Lamu and North Eastern Kenya. On Wednesday, October 10, two teachers from Arabia Boys Secondary School were killed the militants raided the institution.

The attackers are reported to have thrown an explosive device in a house where the teachers were which set it on fire.
