Why memories of Michuki are more vivid after tens of Kenyans die on roads?

Commuters have been told to brace for a difficult time temporarily as traffic regulations commonly known as “Michuki rules” are set to be revamped and enforced in a few weeks.

But as the bottomless pit of road carnage continues to swallow passengers on Kenyan highways, many citizens have posed for a moment and admired the days when late John Michuki was Transport Minister.

Michuki’s memories always come forth whenever tragic road accidents bite.

It is, however, not the first time Michuki’s memories come forth as he is always remembered whenever there a tragic road accident bites.

So why are memories of the deceased minister more vivid after tens of Kenyans die on roads? What forgotten regimen did he introduce in the transport sector that even eight years after his death, still haunt the country?

Soon after his appointment in the Transport and Communication docket in 2003 by former President Mwai Kibaki, the minister effected unprecedented road rules that were contained in a document branded as Legal Notice 161, 2003.
